Ugly Cat by Libby Hathorn

Ugly cat came

Miaowing and pouncing,

Over fences, out of darkness,

A huge tatty ball of wild matted fur,

Spitting and scratching,

And hating us with yellow eyes.

Ugly cat stayed

Miaowing and pouncing,

Restless round our door,

Then supping even purring…

Liking us, little by little,

Yes, purring and purring

Stray thing, even playing,

Rolling right over,

Huge wild ball of thick fur,

Liking us with yellow eyes,

Looking up at us,

As if to say, I’m here lucky ones,

Just as if he were

A real beauty!
