On 1 December 2011, Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Arts Minister Simon Crean launched the 2012 Prime Minister’s Literary Awards, including a new poetry prize.
The Prime Minister’s Literary Awards, held annually, recognise outstanding literary talent in our country and the valuable contribution literature makes in shaping our cultural identity.
Entries are open from 3 December 2011 to 1 February 2012.
The Blake Poetry Prize 2011, named for visionary artist and poet William Blake, is presented by the NSW Writers’ Centre and the Blake Society. The Prize challenges Australian poets to explore the spiritual and religious in a new 100-line poem. The Prize is non-sectarian but does expect poems entered will have a recognisable religious or spiritual integrity.
The shortlist for the 2011 Blake Poetry Prize has been announced.
